Luis Govantes, the Director of Sales for Solutions Manufacturing, gave the BAC Industry Readiness Training program (IRT) participants and staff an in-depth look into their company. Solutions Manufacturing provides quality contract manufacturing services to its clients.
Through a PowerPoint presentation, the IRT participants learned that Solutions helps create and test technology used for a variety of things from billboard lights and carnival games to airplanes, boats, medical equipment, and even for the space program and Department of Defense. Solutions has even done extensive work with one of BAC’s business partners; MediComp.
The IRT Group was treated to a behind the scenes look of the facility. They were able to observe the employees hard at work creating circuit boards, using X-ray machines to check products, stocking thousands of parts, and soldering. Even though some of the jobs seemed complicated and very technical, Luis explained that Solutions trains all employees and there are jobs like stripping wires and cleaning equipment that were less technical.
After touring the facility, Luis gave the group insight on what kind qualities Solutions looks for when hiring. Honesty, dependability, and punctuality were at the top of the list but Luis explained that soft skills and getting along with others were just as important.
The Industry Readiness Training program at Brevard Achievement Center is dedicated to providing individuals with disabilities a multidisciplinary structured program that offers those with an interest in transitioning into community employment the chance to achieve those goals. Participants are taught in a classroom setting the skills needed for high demand industries like hospitality, retail and light manufacturing.
Through
partnerships with those in our community, like Solutions Manufacturing, our participants are able to see and learn first hand what opportunities are achievable.
The IRT is so grateful for the opportunity to learn about Solutions. Not only did Luis teach us so much about manufacturing he even reinforced the work maturity skills that we have been working on in our program. This was a great experience for us and we are looking forward to possibly partnering with Solutions in the future.
