BAC’s new Industry Readiness Training (IRT) program, the first of its kind in the southeast, recently received over $65,000 in funding thanks to a $5,000 grant from PNC Foundation and cash sponsorships generated through the agency’s inaugural “Dinner in the Dark” fundraiser.
The IRT program is the latest in BAC’s strong menu of programs designed to assist people with disabilities achieve personal success. The program was completely designed by BAC staff to give individuals with significant disabilities an opportunity to obtain and sustain employment at the highest level achievable. The grant and sponsorship funds will be used to purchase curriculum, as well as materials and equipment to create simulated work “pods.” These miniature work stations will mimic the actual job setting for hands-on skills training. To ensure that training and education meet employer expectations, an advisory council was formed as part of the program.
